Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury
We gather in the parlor at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings to study the Holy Bible together. Every Sunday during worship, we read aloud a portion of the Old Testament, a Psalm, a portion of the Epistles of the New Testament, and a portion of one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). Our Sunday Forum meets to discuss the daily readings, talk about our lives, and share our questions and our faith with each other.
From September through May, we gather in the parlor on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m. for an in-depth study of one book of the Bible. Two years ago, we read through the Gospel According to John. Last year, we read through Acts of the Apostles. In 2024-2025, we will be reading the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans. All are welcome to join this small group.
Education for Ministry, fondly referred to as EfM, is a unique four-year small-group formation program based on study and practice in theological reflection. Since its founding in 1975, this international program has assisted more than 120,000 participants in discovering and nurturing their call to Christian service where they live, work, and play. EfM helps the faithful learn the Christian tradition, bringing it into conversation with their experiences of the world. Epiphany is forming an EfM group to begin in the fall of 2025. We are blessed to have Rosemary Arneson, a trained EfM mentor with over a decade of experience, leading our group. For more information, contact Rosemary through the church office.
Epiphany offers year-round Sunday School classes for children of all ages every Sunday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Sunday School lets out in time for children to join their families for worship. Epiphany uses an Episcopal Church curriculum that coordinates lessons with the Sunday scripture readings. We are blessed to have Mrs. Gail Wood as our lead Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Wood is an experienced Christian educator and was twice voted the Henrico County Teacher of the Year.
The most crucial element of Children's Christian Formation is regular presence in worship with their families. Parents and families are the primary Christian educators for children and are integral to their faith lives. Epiphany works to be a welcoming, safe place for our children to learn about God, the Holy Scriptures, the traditions of the Church, and the sacraments. We encourage all parents to tend to their personal faith lives and bring their children to worship.
