John 3:5
Becoming a member at Epiphany is an important step. When a person joins the Church, they become part of the Body of Christ. We take that seriously. Membership is multi-layered, and each level of membership has a specific meaning and expectation. We do not take it lightly, but we always take it joyfully!
Please speak to the priest if you feel that God is calling you to join our Christian family.
The basic foundation of membership is the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.
To become a member, you must be baptized. All people who have been baptized with water in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, whether in this Church or in another Christian Church, and whose baptisms have been recorded in Epiphany's parish record, are members. Whether you were baptized at Epiphany, at another Episcopal church, or in another Christian church, we acknowledge your baptism.
If you feel called to be baptized, please contact the priest. If you are already baptized and would like to become a member at Epiphany, please contact the priest about transferring your membership.
The Church expects all adult members to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their baptism and to be confirmed by the laying on of hands by a bishop of this Church. People who have previously made a mature public commitment in another Church may be received by the laying on of hands by a bishop of this Church rather than confirmed.
All baptized members of Epiphany who have received Holy Communion at Epiphany at least three times during the preceding year are considered communicants.
Being a communicant in good standing means that for the previous year, a member has been faithful to the vows they took to God, attending worship regularly (unless by good cause prevented) and working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God.
The Church earnestly hopes that all baptized members, in sincere commitment to their vows, will faithfully attend the Holy Eucharist services each Sunday, unless prevented by a valid cause.
The Church also hopes and expects members to work, pray, and financially support Epiphany through an annual pledge, working toward the tithe, the Biblical minimum standard of proportionate giving.
In order to be qualified to vote at Epiphany's annual parish meeting, one must be a baptized adult member who is either confirmed or received and also a communicant in good standing. This is also the expectation for all vestry members because they are spiritual leaders of the church.
